Summer Activities Coordinator Avalon Academy

Salary: $9.50 per hour
Hours: Monday -Friday 7:45am – 2:45pm Dates: June 1, 2017 – August 18, 2017

The Summer Activities Coordinator Intern must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable and ready to ask questions. The Intern must be able to meet required deadlines. The work may involve some moderate lifting. The Intern will be asked to drive to nearby stores to acquire supplies. The Intern will be supervised and mentored by the Avalon Academy Interim Director.

The goal of the Avalon Academy is to provide the Intern with a challenging project that allows him/her to develop professional skills while working with trained educators, interacting with families, and contributing to the program as part of the Avalon Academy team. The Intern will learn the importance of non-profit service in a small school environment.

Responsibilities include the following:
• Meet once a week with supervisor or a board member to discuss challenges and progress of projects. • Support the Avalon Academy team, this includes active participation in staff meetings.
• Familiarity with the summer programming conducted by Avalon Academy.
• Coordinate purchasing, preparation and distribution of summer activity materials.
• Maintain an organized system of purchases so that an accurate materials budget can be compiled easily at the end of the summer.
• Participate in preparation work for Fall Festival 2017.
• Participate in research related to fundraising and begin work for Spring Auction 2018.

Job Requirements:
• Must be a full time undergraduate student as of Spring 2017 returning as a full time student in Fall 2017.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and both Macintosh and PC platforms.
• Experience with Microsoft Excel and creating spreadsheets for data tracking.
• Interest in working closely with children in an educational environment.
• Interest in customer service and interaction with families.
• Intern must have access to reliable vehicle for use during work hours.
• Intern must have at least a basic knowledge of Montrose area.
• Intern must be comfortable lifting large items, approximately 40 lbs.
• Must be organized, detail-oriented, reliable and ready to ask questions.

Eligibility Restrictions:
• No family member of current or former employee or board member of Avalon Academy may be considered for this position.
